Promoting the health and well-being of children and adolescents beyond the hospital walls is a critical part of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago’s mission because we know that for most children their zip code impacts their health more than their genetic code.

All proceeds from this year’s Giving Day will support the Founders’ Board’s newest funding commitment: a $5 million gift to support the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities. The funds raised align directly with the Magoon Institute’s highest priorities: helping children thrive in the communities where they live, learn and play.

For decades, Lurie Children's experts have partnered with community organizations throughout the city to reach youth in the communities they call home and help them thrive. Now, with the support of philanthropy, we are excited to elevate this important work.
Named for the hospital’s previous President & CEO, the Magoon Institute will continue his 23-year legacy of unwavering commitment to pediatric health within the community context. It will serve as the hub for all community-focused initiatives at Lurie Children’s, expanding the efforts of the Healthy Communities program that was established in 2017. We will continue to build strong collaborations with community organizations and facilitate community-engaged outreach and research initiatives to advance and implement evidence-informed child and adolescent health programs and practices.
