In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the interest of the health and wellbeing of all in the Lurie Children’s family, we have made the decision to replace our traditional Chips & Sips poker event with an event at TopGolf on April 22, 2021. Lurie Children's is continuing to work closely with the Illinois and Chicago Departments of Public Health to follow their guidelines as they evolve. We hope you can join us!

The Founders’ Board and Men’s Golf Committee are pleased to host an evening at TopGolf to replace their annual Chips & Sips Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament. TopGolf offers a socially distanced, safe and fun experience for all participants. While this year’s event may look a bit different, the commitment to celebrating the lifesaving and compassionate healthcare provided by Lurie Children’s remains the same.

The Founders’ Board and Men’s Golf Committee will host an evening at TopGolf in Schaumburg, IL. This naturally socially distanced venue allows participants to compete to win it all in groups of 6. We hope you can join for a fun evening of golf, cocktails, and merriment in support of Lurie Children’s!

All golfers will compete in groups of 6 – individual tickets will not be sold this year. So get your group of scratch golfers together and join in the fun.

COVID Guidelines

Guests are required to wear a facemask at Topgolf Schaumburg except while actively eating, drinking, or hitting on the mat. Masks are not required for children under the age of 2 or for those with underlying health conditions.

Topgolf Schaumburg also allows guests to remove their masks if they feel comfortable while in assigned bays.

Rules of the Game

In this best ball team game, each team will receive 120 balls for the round which must be completed in 60 minutes. Each player will hit their own balls and must hit the same number of balls. Each will hit 4 balls at a specific target and then move to the next. We recommend an 8/8/4 cadence. Once a player’s shots are complete, they will hand the club to one of their teammates, who will repeat the process. This will continue until everyone in your bay has hit 4 balls at each particular target. Players will aim four balls at each of the five targets – yellow, green, brown, blue, and finally white.

The team score will be pulled from the highest scoring individual shot at each respective target. The game is complete when all players in a bay have hit their final 4 balls at the white target.

You will gain points by hitting your balls towards the designated target, starting with yellow and proceeding as directed by the touchscreen panel. The closer you shoot to the target, the higher your score will be. If you hit a ball to another target, you will still receive points, but those are worth less than the designated target you are on. The last ball at each target is worth TRIPLE points, so make them count!

Impact

All proceeds from this year’s event will support the Founders’ Board’s newest funding commitment: a two-year $5 million gift to support the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities. The funds raised align directly with the Magoon Institute’s highest priorities: helping children thrive in the communities where they live, love, learn and play.

Promoting the health and well-being of children and adolescents beyond the hospital walls is a critical part of our mission. For decades, Lurie Children's experts have partnered with community organizations throughout the city to reach youth where they live, learn and play and help them thrive. Now, with the support of philanthropy, we are excited to elevate this important work by launching the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities.

Named for our previous President & CEO, the Magoon Institute will continue his 23-year legacy of unwavering commitment to pediatric health within the community context. It will serve as the hub for all community-focused initiatives at Lurie Children’s, expanding the efforts of the Healthy Communities program that was established in 2017. We will continue to build strong collaborations with community organizations and facilitate community-engaged outreach and research initiatives to advance and implement evidence-informed child and adolescent health programs and practices.
